This is Lansens' third novel. Her last The wifes tale book, The Girls, is one of my favourite and Rush Home Road was a wonderful novel which I loved too.

Her new work,The Wife's Tale A Novel, while well written with and interesting main character in Mary Gooch, was not as strong as her previous two works. In this story the author references her other two novels/5.

This is the second book by Lori Lansens that I have read, and like the other The Girls, I was not disappointed in The Wife's Tale. This is the story of Mary Gooch, a morbidly obese Canadian woman whose husband leaves her on the eve of their 25th wedding anniversary/5().

"A sensitive but deliciously comic account of Mary's fight against the "obeast" that has lived inside her since childhood, The Wife's Tale offers more than self-improvement: there are loving reflections on marriage and family in small-town Ontario, hilarious travelogues about American obsessions like McMansions and vanity license plates, and a tender documentary of the /5().

The title The Wife’s Tale is originally one of the Canterbury Tales in which a knight is sent on a quest to discover what women want. He finally achieves an answer in learning that they want mastery of their husbands/5(22).

The Wifes Tale is a dual timeline novel that alternates between the point-of-view of Liz Jones, a young Australian lawyer whose ambition and drive to succeed have put her marriage at risk, and Delany Nash, who was at the centre of an infamous scandal in the s/5. • The Wife’s Tale: A Personal History is published by 4th Estate.

At once lively and impeccably scholarly, A Midwife's Tale is a triumph of history on a human scale/5(). The Old Wives' Tale is the story of their lives from girlhood to old age and it is a remarkable masterpiece.

The life experiences of the two are vastly different, yet /5. The Wife’s Tale. By Seamus Heaney. When I had spread it all on linen cloth Under the hedge, I called them over. The hum and gulp of the thresher ran down And the big belt slewed to a standstill, straw Hanging undelivered in the jaws.

There was such quiet that I heard their boots Crunching the stubble twenty yards away. Summary: The Wife of Bath’s Tale In the days of King Arthur, the Wife of Bath begins, the isle of Britain was full of fairies and elves. Now, those creatures are gone because their spots have been taken by the friars and other mendicants that seem to fill every nook and cranny of the isle.

"The Wife of Bath's Tale" is the story of a knight who is spared from the completely punitive justice represented by the king, only to face the queen's rehabilitative justice. Just as our society is divided on the proper form of criminal justice, readers of "The Wife of Bath's Tale" disagree about how effective the queen's justice actually is.
